Linda sends Christmas love in a box to orphans
STAPLEHURST village has come together to help a great-grand- mother create Christmas shoe- boxes for a cause close to her heart. When Linda Savage (72) volun-
teered at a local charity after seeing a Facebook post about a puppy looking for a home, she had no idea it would change her life. The retired
foster mother of
Bathurst Close says she is “blown away” after her neighbours sprang into action to help her. Mrs Savage, a volunteer at Paws
2 Rescue, said she felt compelled to help the orphans in Romania after colleagues told her about their shocking discoveries.
She said: “When I became in-
volved with Paws 2 Rescue, they would tell me about the horrific conditions of the orphanages in Romania. They found one little boy on the side of the road in flip flops with snow up to his waist.” Linda has been inundated with donations, from coats to blankets
Crocodile wellies put a smile on this boy’s face and right, Linda Savage
and toys. She added: “I even had a little boy tell me he wanted to give his favourite crocodile wellies to a boy who needed them more. “Donations are left for me all the time; it has absolutely taken over my life and home. You name it, we’ve got it. The people of Staple- hurst are stars.” Mrs Savage, who has lived in the village since she was 18, has cre-
ated more than 200 shoeboxes to send to Romania this Christmas. She added: “When I hear parents moaning about how hard their children have it in lockdown, I think to myself ‘really?’ “They have games, TVs, beds and even schools to get back to. These shoeboxes are
the only
things these children will get for Christmas.”
