The Odeon has undergone a transformation with brand new lux- ury seating. The cinema in Barker Road has been closed since lock- down but will be open for business from October 16.

A spokesman said: "The new

Odeon has been carefully designed to meet government guidelines and to give guests and colleagues confi- dence and reassurance.

“It will feature 615 brand new, handmade recliner seats across the eight refurbished screens, including a cutting-edge iSense screen, giving the clearest sound and brightest pic- ture."

General manager Ania Karnas added: “We are delighted to up- grade Odeon Maidstone to a Luxe cinema, bringing the premium ex- perience to Maidstone film fans as they return to the big screen. "We are looking forward to welcoming the local community through our doors and have introduced comprehen- sive new measures to deliver a safer cinema experience for all.”

Blue badge revolt over pedestrian measures

MAIDSTONE Borough Council (MBC) has faced an angry back- lash over new measures to further pedestrianise parts of the town centre. Blue-badge holders accuse the council of “making life difficult” over the trial scheme in Earl Street. cult this makes things for us. There is no understanding of our needs.” Kim Curnew (59), of Warden Close, said: “It makes no sense that these wooden platforms have been put here to help restaurants with outdoor seating when we are ap- proaching winter.”

Jill Cook (67), of East Malling,

said: “Cutting off the access for us and replacing disabled parking bays is a massive slap in the face, really.”

An MBC spokesman said:

“Whilst we can appreciate this may provide some inconvenience, town centre disabled bays are still avail- able on King Street and Wyke Manor Road and a blue badge will allow its holder to park in any town centre short-stay car park for up to four hours free of charge.” Kent County Council (KCC) said the measures are temporary and adjustments can be made if needed.
