Ethan roars to double championship wins

LOOSE schoolboy Ethan Sparks lit up the overcast conditions when he sealed a double British Cham- pionship in the September end of season finale at Red Lodge, the Suffolk motorcycle race track. Three wins in the Metrakit GP50 championship and

two wins in the AC40 Pro mini-bike championship during the penultimate meeting at Rowrah in Cum- bria, set Ethan on his way. When a wet and windy Red Lodge welcomed the

racers to Suffolk, the championships were all but over. Nine-year-old Ethan already held a 100-point lead over his nearest rival.

He won his second race and was declared the 2020 AC40 mini-bike British Champion.

A 40-point lead in the GP50 championship needed Ethan to finish second to double his tally. In a wet race, Ethan defied his usual mindset of rid- ing to win, settling for a solid but sensible race to gain second place and the points to claim another British Championship for 2020. He then delighted supporters with a lap of honour before the long trek back to Kent. Ethan’s father, Gavin, said: “The results over the last two meetings were some of his best all season. “It’s back to normality for us this week, but we’re

all buzzing knowing we have a son who is a double British champion.”
