Fostering Hope Amid A Pandemic

The project, Fostering Hope, is a symbol of Suncoast Humane Society’s appreciation and gratitude for the community sup- port they received when the statewide stay-at-home order went into effect. Foster homes were found for all of the shel- ter’s dogs, cats and rabbits. Suncoast Humane Society CEO, Maureen O’Nell recalls, “The weeks passed as we watched these pets flourish. We got pic- tures and videos, and laughed and cried when we saw ani- mals who had strug- gled in the shelter blossom. How could we possibly express our gratitude for what they had done?” A small team of

Suncoast Humane Society’s staff mem- bers and volunteers made and packaged

over one hundred wind chimes. Each chime had a bell and a paw print, but all are unique in their own ways. On June 13, 2020, Suncoast Humane Society encour-

aged their foster families to hang up their chimes and take a moment to reflect on what a difference they had made in the lives of the shelter’s animals. “From 8:00PM until sunset, we wanted the chimes to

fill the night with sounds of hope, and to be a reminder to our community how invaluable they are to us, always,” said Maureen.
