The Outsider
Author, Author! Hulu’s Clive Barker’s Books of Blood, based on
the novel that put the gay horror author on the map, will delve into the dark spirits within the human condition in a three-story anthology movie that are “tangled in space and time.” Some of the stories from the source material have been made into the movies Hellraiser and Candyman, but no word on which tales will be adapted. So, watch and see! (October 7) Sometimes there are shows that you may not
be aware of, and it’s my job to keep you informed. HBO’s The Outsider is based on the Stephen King novel of the same name – imagine that – and at first seems like a police procedural series, until it doesn’t, when it dives headfirst into King’s signature supernatural territory. Detective Ralph Anderson (Ben Mendelsohn) enlists the

help of an idiosyncratic woman, Holly Gibney (Cynthia Erivo), in investigating a series of grisly murders. The same character was featured in King’s Mr. Mercedes book trilogy, along with the TV series based on that literary threesome. She has also shown up again in the pages of his latest bestseller If It Bleeds, which is not a sequel to Carrie and could serve as the plotline for a potential second season. And did you know that King’s son is Joe Hill?
Well now ya do! He has also made quite a name for himself as a horror meister in his own right, both in book form and on the screen. His graphic novel NOS4A2 has enjoyed a two- season run on AMC and stars Zachary Quinto as Charlie Manx, a supernatural being who kidnaps children and takes them to Christmas Land,
but rather than meeting Jolly Old St. Nicholas they become vampires. Out to thwart him is motorcycle-ridin’ Ashleigh Cummings as Vic McQueen, who surprisingly isn’t a lesbian, rather that character is portrayed by Jahkara Smith. Hill’s short story By the Silver Water of Lake
Champlain was adapted for the inaugural season of Shudder’s TV series version of Creepshow, which were based on the movies from the 1980s that were written by his father. Cut. Print. That’s a Wrap! And there you have it, just a few ways to get
you into the Halloween groove in the comfort of your own prison, er, home. While you slice open a pumpkin and scoop out its guts, make sure to carve out some time for these frightful feasts for your eyes. Happy viewing!
