by scott leonard The Living Out Loud gala is one of San Diego’s most anticipated
LIVING OUT LOUD 2020
events of the year. In addition to being a fun and festive evening, all money raised support the lifesaving services of Stepping Stone, a nonprofit alcohol and drug recovery agency offering a variety of treatment and recovery programs to the LGBT community since 1976. This year’s event is going virtual and the theme is ‘80s Vibe. Gather
your A-Team of friends to get Saved by the Bell, put your Golden Girls in a totally tubular outfits, and support the Stepping Stone Dynasty. Purchase your virtual tickets or table of 10 online. Then, get ready
for your swag bag (or box) of goodies in the mail, which is scheduled to arrive before the gala. Join in the festivities on Friday, October 23. Use your swag to decorate and adorn, and get ready for one of the wildest hours you can imagine in their star-spangled celebrity Zoom room! Miss Richfield 1981 will be the emcee. This Midwestern maven
is expected to bring the perfect combination of interactivity, homespun warmth and edgy improv, making this Living Out Loud one for the books. Don’t miss this once-in-a-pandemic chance to celebrate with Stepping Stone.

OUT UNDER THE STARS In celebration of National Coming Out Day, the Los Angeles LGBT Center and Lionsgate present
a rooftop screening of the cult classic But I’m a Cheerleader on Sunday, October 11, in the parking garage at 1400 Ivar Avenue in Hollywood. This latest installment of the Center’s annual outdoor film series OUT Under the Stars
celebrates film’s 20th anniversary. “This campy take of a coming-of-age tale will reverberate with those of us who realized we
were LGBTQ after forming a high school crush on someone of the same gender, whether it was their classmate, best friend or next-door neighbor. But I’m a Cheerleader depicts young love transcending above all,” said Rani DeMesme-Anders, director of community engagement. “And with safety precautions in place against COVID-19, we look forward to watching this
movie above Hollywood at a parking garage rooftop — it’s just like being at a drive-in theatre but, this time, with your community celebrating National Coming Out Day.” For the best vehicle positioning at the venue, guests can purchase a VIP Driver Ticket for $35. The driver can then park within the first two rows of vehicles. Passengers accompanying the VIP Driver are required to purchase individual VIP Passenger Tickets at $35 apiece. For guests who prefer to sit under the stars — away from their vehicles — they may
purchase VIP Socially Distanced Seats for Two. That includes two tickets to the movie; a pair of socially distanced premier seating reserved in front of the screen; a picnic package with snacks and wine for two; and one parking pass to park their vehicles on the lower level of the parking garage. These tickets holders will then walk to the rooftop. All proceeds benefit the Center’s work to continue providing vital programs and services to those who need it the most during the COVID-19 pandemic.
