by tim parks OH, THE HORROR!

In the month that celebrates Halloween and spooky offerings on the small and big screens, there’s nothing scarier than tuning into the nightly news right now. Am I riiiight? And with so many anticipated horror movies being shelved until next fall, films such as Halloween Kills and the reboot of Candyman have proven to be a trick rather than a treat. And it also gets a qualified boo in my book, but alas, these are the times we are living in. So, it looks like TV will be coming through in the pandemic clutch, but that isn’t a bad thing at all, as there are more than enough ways to get your Netflix and chills on.

Lovecraft Country Raised by Wolves

Horror Box Office HBO’s Lovecraft Country is not only a timely

of how female characters handled themselves during the era. In other words, she’s no shrinking violet waiting for a man to rescue her, whether it’s on a road trip through the Jim Crow era of America or facing hideous monstrosities both in creature and human form. Raised by Wolves falls more into the category of science fiction, but bears mentioning as it does feature horrifying moments, courtesy of Alien director Ridley Scott.

A “for instance” in the story of interplanetary settlers, one atheist and the others religious, comes in the form of the character known as Mother (Amanda Collin). And she’s a bad mother … well, you get the gist and that I’m not talking about Shaft. Let’s just say that it’s not nice to fool with this Mother’s android nature, as she is apt to evaporate you with her primal scream. It’s a visually stunning show that is a definite thrill ride, an E-ticket one at that.
