A Note From The President Dear TALHFA Members:

2020. Enough said. As we enter the fall season, typically we think of cooler weather and the Annual TALHFA Educational Conference. A place where we enjoy networking and meeting with housing finance experts, learning new techniques, and sharing old tried and true practices. We always discuss new housing developments, plans for the New Year, and lastly; share the upcoming holiday season plans with business colleagues who have become friends.

2020 has brought a pandemic, loss of family and commercial income, closed businesses, social injustice protests, political prodigality, millions of evictions; moratoriums on evictions, and sadly; homelessness. Not only are tenants facing one of the toughest years in recent history; developers and landlords struggle to maintain homes for those we serve along with the ability to sustain the rental income necessary to support communities for the families we serve. The housing crisis of 2020 will impact not only our families today and next week, but the next generation of kids experi- encing eviction and perhaps even homelessness. 2020 is personal.

While we will not gather in person this year at the Annual TALHFA Confer- ence, we are developing a series of webinars for our membership to stay current on the happenings in Austin, Washington, and the finance and de- velopment fields. Hopefully this fall we will begin a series of educational webinars with experienced, successful housing finance professionals, HFC Board Members, policy experts, and a few whizzes on how the real world of affordable housing development works in your backyards.

We will get through 2020 together. I hope to see each of you down the road. In the meantime, please be safe, wear a mask, and keep your dis- tance!

Sincerely,

Fall 2020

TALHFA
