L I FE BEGINS AT MENOPAUSE

October is World Menopause Month, giving women across the globe the chance to talk openly and raise awareness of this inevitable stage in a woman’s life. Menopause is a normal, natural part of the ageing process, yet many women are still worried about going through it.

The good news is - you don’t have to suffer in silence. You’re not on your own. With the right help and support, menopause can be the turning point for the beginning of the rest of your life. Women’s health specialist Ruth Anne Adams at Air Aesthetics offers some valuable advice to female clients attending her menopause clinics.

“It’s so important that we eliminate the stigma associated with menopause and feel able to talk about it and understand how our mind and body works around hormonal imbalances.”

RECOGNISE THE CHANGES

Ruth lists 3 symptoms to look out for which signal peri-menopause – the start of the menopause cycle:

38

• Hot flushes: There’s no doubt, the physical symptoms of menopause can be tough - night sweats and hot flushes can be embarrassing and hard to manage socially

• Emotion: The mental symptoms can be just as challenging as the physical ones – including anxiety, loss of confidence, mood swings, emotional well-being and brain fog.

• Lack of sleep: Regularly waking up in the early hours, unable to sleep is a sure-fire sign of the menopause wreaking havoc with your body’s natural rhythms

“It’s important to realise that all these symptoms are caused by increased hormonal activity and changes driven by the

menopause,” says Ruth. She adds, “The good news is that through therapies and techniques to manage and rebalance your mind, body and hormones they can all be calmed down and give you back control of your life.”

TACKLE YOUR MENOPAUSE SYMPTOMS AND REGAIN YOUR CONFIDENCE

Living with the symptoms of menopause can be tough, but you don’t need to let it control your life. Here are some ways you can positively influence and manage your menopause.

MANAGE YOUR DIET Weight gain, especially around the abdomen is common during the menopause, but good nutrition can make a big impact not only on the way you feel but the way you look, too. Replace carbs with whole grains, fresh fruit and vegetables for improved energy and better overall health.

I GOT MY GLOW BACK!

“I began to suffer with what I later found out was anxiety when I started the menopause. My confidence was low, I was struggling with sleep and work had become something I dreaded! I have never before suffered with anxiety and it was a completely new and terrifying experience. That is when I contacted Ruth Adams clinic and began a program of therapy which completely resolved these issues. I can honestly say her professionalism and talent to work quickly and really make an impact on my wellbeing is a breath of fresh air! I can’t recommend her services enough.”
