28 | CHANT ENGINEERING CUSTOM-ENGINEERS PANDEMIC RESPONSE

Chant Engineering has a long history of producing custom-designed equipment to serve a variety of needs in the lifting and rigging sector and across a number of other industries. Faced with a global pandemic, and wanting to keep his team busy, CEO Phil Chant set about identifying something his team could design and manufacture that might be helpful in responding to Covid-19. And about six amazing weeks later, a new venture started manufacturing a portable device that can sanitize N-95 respirator masks for re-use multiple times!

32 | THE MEN FROM MARR’S COMPLETE STUNNING WORLD-RECORD LIFT

In last year’s May/June issue we previewed the support that Australia’s Marr Contracting Pty Ltd is now providing on construction of the massive 1915 Canakkale Bridge in Turkey. Here is a long-awaited update on that project, including stunning photographs of their work more than 1,000 above the water. Tis bridge, the first to cross the Dardanelles, provides traffic and transport a route between European and Asian regions of Turkey without approaching very congested Istanbul.

ON THE COVER: From its perch 328 meters (or 1,076 feet) above the water of the Dardanelles, one of Marr Contracting’s two M2480D Heavy Lift Luffers hoists a section of the Upper Cross Beam (UCB) into place on the 1915 Canakkale Bridge in Turkey. At this height, the lift operation requires about 30 minutes to hoist each section from below. The operation included what is thought to be a world-record crane lift at height, as one of the UCB sections weighing in at 155 tonnes was hoisted into place 318 meters above the water. When complete, the 2,023 meter or about 1.25 mile center span will be the longest of any suspension bridge in the world. Photo courtesy of Marr Contracting Pty Ltd
