As the province opens up for business again, the ORHA will be running its first show in July 17-19, 2020 at Fletcher’s Horse World.

A history of Futurities in Ontario Ontario has a rich history of showcasing the

talents of horses in the province, as two-and three- year-olds. Established in 1991, the Ontario Born and Bred (OBBO) program promoted all horses that were either born, or bred, in Ontario. The pro- gram was very successful and the province saw some spectacular two and three year old horses, who have continued their journeys in the world of reining. 2017 was the last year for horses to be en- rolled in the OBBO program, meaning 2020 will be the final year of showing for the OBBO three-year- olds. This will be an exciting show as there’s lots of prizes for the winners and added prize money! The OBBO committee wants to thank all its sponsors over the past years

for their generosity and enthusiasm. 2020 OBBO Futurity Added monies

The ORHA Futurity Program – new for 2020 Over the years, in- years

increases each year.

terest has grown for an expanded program which would include aged events (derbies) and allow horses from out of province, or country to enter.

2018 was the first

enrolled foal crop for the new ORHA futurity and you can see them as two- year olds this year in their prospect class debut. There’s a $1,000 added prize money for the winners for this class. This new program covers a period of reining activ- ity covering five years, as follows: - Reining Prospect class at the age of 2 years - Futurity at the age of 3 years - Derby at the age of 4 years - Derby at the age of 5 years - Derby at the age of 6

Each year of the

program is identified by the year of birth of the enrolled horse. For ex- ample, the 2018 program affects horses foaled in 2018, with those foals el- igible to show in 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.

Enrolment If you’d like to

nominate your foal/horse into the program, you must be an ORHA mem- ber at the time of enroll- ment. Any horse is eligible to be enrolled in the ORHA Futurity, re- gardless of residence of the horse, owner or rider. Nomination starts in your horses’ weanling year and continues to be avail- able all throughout their derby years, We recom- mend enrolling your foals early as the price
