Spotlight on an OCHA Member: Amanda Law
Story by: Zachary Secord-Hudon
Q: How many years have you been involved in the cutting horse industry?
A: I have been at cutting shows since I was 2 months old. Both my parents Brian and Cheryl Law were cutters. I started show- ing when I was seven.
Q: What other types of horses have you shown?
A: When I was 11 I stopped cut- ting and started showing hunter
jumpers. I did that for quite a few years. Then I did some team pen- ning and sorting. When I was 20 I moved to Lacombe, Alberta and started working for Brad Pederson. While working for him I bought a cutting horse in Al- berta and started cutting again. When I moved back to Ontario, I started cutting with the ECCHA. I met my husband Tyler Scott and he was not into horses at first. We bought a cutting horse anyway and then he started cutting and was hooked. I went back and did hunter jumpers for about 2 years and Tyler started showing at
OCHA without me so I finally decided to get back into cutting. I have been doing it ever since. I am in my second year of being on the executive board and I ab- solutely love it.
Q: What’s your profession? A: I am social working.
Q: Who have you worked with in the industry? Q: Is cutting horses your hobby? A: Yes, My sister Meghan Law

Q: What do you like about the sport?
A: Although for me to show my horse I have to travel six hours, it’s worth it for the love of the sport. I have made a lot of great friendships. My husband and I and our daughter who is six can enjoy cutting horses together as a family.
JULY 2020 THE RIDER /13 With two full time work-
ing parents of a 6 year old and living so far away from the OCHA shows it can be really hard to make it work. With care- ful planning and some sacrifices to a social life and traditional holidays, we make it work !
