10/ JULY 2020 THE RIDER Fair Cancellations

Ancaster Fair 2020 to be Re-Imagined

News Release The 170th Ancaster Fair

scheduled for the 3rd weekend after Labour Day, September 24- 27, 2020, will not take place due to COVID-19. A re-imagined event is currently being planned

with details to follow in the com- ing weeks. The Ancaster Agricultural

Society (AAS) Board of Direc- tors made the difficult but pru- dent decision on Monday, June 8 after surveying their membership and reviewing the state of the Province in the wake of COVID-

19. We are grateful for the con-

fidence and support our sponsors and vendors continue to provide. This will allow us to move for- ward with our vision to stay pres- ent throughout 2020. This is only the second An-

caster Fair that has been can-

celled in our 170 year history. The decision, impact, and ripple effect will be great. The Fair was cancelled in 1931 due to Infantile Flu, polio. The decision to not host the 170th Fair in 2020 is not the end of our year. In the com- ing weeks we will be putting to- gether an interactive schedule of educational videos and competi- tions. We encourage our loyal and valued supporters to follow us on our social media platforms for updates. We are certain you’ll find something for the whole family.

World’s Fair is an integral part of autumn: sitting next to folks at the Demolition Derby, entering a picture-perfect photo, growing a garden of top notch veggies, training a stubborn 4H calf, sprucing up a midway ride, pur- chasing materials for a conces- sion, planning exhibits and entertainment, cozying up in a warm sweater in the fall breeze, enjoying a bacon burger and yummy Fair food and gathering with family and friends. Since the Fair ended last

fall, the Rockton Ag. Society has had plans in the works so that those very traditions would con- tinue in 2020. However, the novel coron-

avirus has sidetracked our efforts. No one could have imagined that the Board of Directors would be forced to consider the potential cancelling of the 2020 Fair alto- gether. However, here we are. The physical, mental, and

financial health of the folks who support our Fair –members, ex- hibitors, midway personnel, ven- dors, sponsors, volunteers, staff, Fair-goers etc. – is our first con- cern. Weighing all the available evidence that large gatherings such as our Fair, is not allowed in the foreseeable future, we have opted to cancel the 2020 Rockton World’s Fair. This is one moment in time

for all of us, but in no way will this setback keep us from looking to the 2021 Fair. We will have lots of work to do to meet criteria of protecting our visitors as well

as keeping our own tradition of excellence in the forefront. We have met challenges of the past 167 Rockton Fairs with ingenu- ity, tenacity, and action. We will return in 2021 with energy,

renewed smarter,

stronger, more innovative, and with our favorite thanksgiving tradition, The Rockton World’s Fair.

Thank you for your sup- port,

Norfolk County Fair & Horse Show 2020 Cancelled News Release It is with great sadness we the Norfolk

announce that

County Fair & Horse Show will not move forward as planned for its seven day fair from October 6 - 12. The Board of Directors, in consultation with volunteers and staff, have made the difficult de- cision to cancel this year’s Fair. The safety and well-being

of our community, volunteers, exhibitors, partners and fair pa- trons always comes first. Please be assured that this decision was made out of an abundance of cau- tion for all. We understand how impor-

tant the Fair is to our community and know that it continues to be a time-honoured tradition for many individuals and families. This year, we were planning a big celebration to commemorate our 180th anniversary. Although this is not the way in which we wanted to honour this milestone, we know that we will be able to gather together once again and share in the excitement and fun of your Norfolk County Fair & Horse Show. We are considering all options, including the poten- tial of presenting Fair programs online for this fall. Stay tuned for further announcements and visit our social media and website for up to date information in the coming weeks. Our entire Fair team wants

to thank you for your continued support. We are grateful to our dedicated partners and volun- teers, and you, our patrons that remain devoted to the Norfolk County Fair & Horse Show. See you next year, at the Fair.

Ilderton Fair News Release May 22 - For 169 years, the Ilderton Fall Fair has celebrated our rural and agricultural her- itage. Over the years, the Fair has undergone many changes, yet our commitment to bringing our community together has re- mained the same. Today, our community is facing unprece- dented challenges, and the safety of our guests and volunteers is paramount. The Ilderton Agricultural

Society has therefore had to make the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Fall Fair due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. While we cannot be to-

gether in person, our mission to celebrate our community, our achievements in agriculture, cre- ative arts and our rural lifestyle will continue. We are already working on several projects to keep the spirit of the Ilderton Fair alive, and we will announce those activities later in the summer. It may look different, but we know that the Ilderton Fair will be back, and better than ever, so stay safe and we will see you next year!
