B&L Information Systems Announces Scholarship Winners: Recipients of Dick Laney Memorial Scholarship


B&L Information Systems announced the 2020 recipients of the Dick Laney Memorial Scholarship, Meredith Gacek, Megan Lesch, and Allison Schmidt. The scholarship was established in 2007 as a memorial to B&L Information System’s founder, Dick Laney and this year brings the total number of scholarship recipients to eighteen.


Meredith Gacek will be a freshman this fall at Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. Meredith will major in Business and eventually attend law school. Since the age of four, Meredith has enjoyed dance, including competing in various regional and national competitions. In addition to dance, Meredith was a student mentor,

Megan Lesch will be a freshman this fall at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan where she will be majoring in Computer Information Systems. Megan has received the CTE award in Graphic Arts. She has enjoyed stage crew for four years and worked on the musical, Newsies, for CMW teenstock at LMC. She is the daughter of Connie and Nick Lesch of St. Joseph, Michigan.


Allison Schmidt will be a freshman


this fall at Valparaiso University in Indiana where she will be majoring in Bioengineering. She was on the volleyball, track, power lifting and basketball teams and went to state for power lifting and track. Her academic honors include Academic All State in Track, BCS Academic Scholar Award and National Honor Society. She is the daughter of Howard and Deanna Schmidt of Sawyer Michigan. The scholarship is available to


children of current B&L employees who attend accredited colleges after high school graduation.
