Inside ICI
Supporting Our Members During Shelter in Place by Joseph E. Fritz, Investment Casting Institute F
or those of you who have recently contacted the ICI, you would have found that it’s “business as usual”, but the fact of the matter is, that is the furthest thing from the truth. With the ICI office being located in one of the COVID-19 hot spots, I felt it in the best interest of all to implement ICI Emergency Protocols.
Originally developed to
support the industry during inclement weather, these protocols lent themselves to safeguarding the wellbeing of ICI Staff during the pandemic. On Friday, March 13, I advised the staff to prepare to work from their homes. All phones were to be forwarded to their personal lines, and each staff member was to man the office on a rotational basis. At least that was the plan, until the situation worsened. On Sunday, March 15, the CDC issued its guideline, which ultimately led to the cancellation of the Business & Leadership Development Conference, as well as the Industry Certification Course. At the same time, Grayce contacted me with recent developments, noting that Teaneck, NJ had just been classified as a hot spot. Teaneck is one town over

from Margureta and several towns away from both Grayce and Nora.
Grayce
recommended that we go into full shutdown.
Agreeing with her recommendation,
the team was advised that everyone was to operate as if a “Shelter in Place” order was in effect. The post office was notified that mail was to be forwarded to Nora. The fax machine was remotely set up to forward all faxes in pdf format to Grayce via email. The building manager was advised of our course of action and agreed to hold any packages that arrived for us in his office. To maintain continuity, daily meetings
staff are being conducted
via video conference. Documents requiring signatures, such as contracts, Membership
applications and
certificates are changing hands via email, and all daily routines are being performed without interruption. So, it may appear to be “business as usual”, but the fact is, it is more like “business as unusual”, as long term execution of ICI Emergency Protocols have become a necessity.
In spite of the current situation, the
ICI and INCAST remain committed to serving our Members and the industry at large. I am very proud to say that each and every ICI team member is fully dedicated to supporting you and your business through these trying times. Rest assured, we are here for you.
Feel free to contact us.
