PANDEMIC Industry Reactions to Global Virus W

ith the spread of the Corona virus affecting our communities across the

globe, the normal operation of every ICI Member has been affected in one way or another. Designated as an essential industry, most investment casting foundries and suppliers have remained open, but the way in which we have been operating has changed, for some of us, dramatically. To get a better understanding to the

degree of which foundries and suppliers have been impacted and their response to the situation, we asked our Members to share their stories and observations with you, our readers.

Due to the strong industry response, this article will be published as a series in multiple issues of INCAST magazine. The following are some of the

responses received prior to our publication deadline. More to follow in the May issue.

––––––––––––––– “As stressful as these times have

been, we have been fortunate, in that there has been minimal impact to supply chain, orders, or operations. We have been able to keep our operations open. The frequency of cleaning and sanitizing our facilities has been significantly increased, including disinfecting all door handles twice daily. Although masks and hand sanitizer are in short supply, we have been able to install sanitizing wipe dispensers in all production areas. All employees that are experiencing any type of sickness have been instructed to stay home. We have asked our higher

risk employees also to stay home, and/ or work from home where it is possible. Training materials and discussions have also taken place, highlighting the importance of hand washing, avoiding contact, and social distancing. It is too soon to tell, but we do expect

to see a slowdown and shift in orders, as some of our customers are currently closed, working from home, or limiting operations. We do have customers that instructed us not to ship castings. As stressful and inconvenient the pandemic has been, it is refreshing to see communities taking the issue seriously, and working together to get through it. Stay safe everyone!” Robert J. Zebick, Atlantic Casting & Engineering Corporation
