2019 IAFE Convention & Trade Show By Suzanne Holcomb, Greater Hillsborough County Fair Manager


The 2019 IAFE Convention was held December 1-4 in San Antonio, Texas and the Florida Federation of Fair members had great representation for the convention. This year the IAFE celebrated Champions of Change and the Florida Federation of Fairs portrayed that we were a huge part of that! The convention held over 100 educational seminars and power talks, hosted the trade show and provided endless opportunities for networking. Many members of the Florida Federation of Fairs were recognized throughout the convention and


many associate members participated in the sold-out trade show. Highlights from the week included the celebration of Institute of Fair Management. The 10th class of the IFM consisted


of 33 graduates and the 1st class of the IFM Graduate Track program con- sisted of 18 gradu- ates. Suzanne Holcomb (Greater Hillsborough Coun- ty Fair) and Paige Pool and Lorie Stinson (South Florida Fair & Palm Beach Expositions, Inc) graduated from the IFM while Vicki Chouris (South Florida Fair & Palm Beach Ex- positions, Inc) and Fran Crone (Southwest Florida & Lee County Fair) graduated from the IFM Graduate Track program. In addition, Suzanne Holcomb was awarded one of the IAFE Etix $500 scholarships to further education in the IFM. Also, many contest winners were announced in the Communications, Agricultural Awards and Competitive Events.


Communications area received 889 contest entries, Agricultural Awards 532 contest entries and Competitive Events with a total of 336 contest entries. Florida Federation of Fairs was once again well represented with the following fairs win- ning the following categories:


Category 19 Websites – Division 4 Fairs: Miami Dade County Fair and Exposition


Communications: Agricultural Awards:


consumers/fair-going public of a current agricultural or fair industry – Division 1 Fairs: Greater Hillsborough County Fair


Category 9A General Display at your Fair/Single Photo – Division 1: Martin County Fair


The IAFE also awarded Innovation in Sponsorship


awards to recognize member fairs that create successful fair sponsorships. In Category 2 – First Time Sponsorships, Division 4
