Nutmeg “Nuggets” How can you easily and safely take advantage and amplify

your body’s natural system for ridding itself of unwanted sub- stances or addressing other health concerns? One of the safest and most effective methods is an infrared sauna. In an infrared sauna, the average person will sweat out 20% toxins and 80% water versus a traditional sauna with 3% toxins and 97% water.

Engaging in any new health routine whether it’s exercise or a treatment modality should be done mindfully, factoring in your own needs and concerns. While everyone is different, these 5 steps can help improve your infrared sauna detoxifica- tion experience:

1. Hydrate: The sweat produced in an infrared sauna is 80-85% water, so make sure you hydrate before, during and after your sauna detox session.

Why Should I Try Infrared Sauna?

auna therapy has been around for centuries as a way to detoxify your body. Different cultures from different time periods have used saunas to improve their health. In Pompeii there are still remnants of heated rooms where ancient Romans would enjoy steam baths. In Scandinavia and Japan structures are built expressly for sweating.

S At its core, the idea of detoxification is actively removing

unwanted substances from the body. Researchers have long told us how the body sweats out toxic substances including heavy metals. As long as you maintain proper hydration, the more you safely sweat, the more toxins you’ll expel from your body. “Detoxification is important because it strengthens the body’s immune system and helps the body’s biochemical processes function efficiently so that we are better able to digest the nu- trients in our foods,” says Dr. Rachel West. She continues, “de- toxification has been shown to be helpful with colitis, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, auto-immune disease, immune deficiency states, autism, ADD and ADHD.”

2. Raise your heart rate: Some people have experienced an improved detox experience if they go for a brisk walk before entering the sauna.

3. Time limits: The amount of time you spend in a sauna detox session can vary. Some people begin at 10-15 minute sessions every other day and then gradually increase to 40 minute ses- sions once a week. Listen to your body.

4. Starting temperature: The optimal sauna experience occurs between 100° and 130°F where the detoxification program combines far and mid infrared. The session begins at a higher temperature to increase core temperature then reduces to a low, comfortable intensity level.

5. No need to shower: After each sauna session, simply dry off with a towel. It is best to let your body cool off naturally while allowing the detox to continue. Hydrate regularly throughout the day.
