YEAR 8 STEAM DROP DOWN DAY
D
uring the October Drop Down Days, Year 8 spent a fun-filled few hours looking at STEAM and how many
of the subjects they learn share ideas and concepts. A carousel of activities was on offer including relays and quizzes, problem-solving, origami and even a murder mystery. The maths department werejoined by computing science, where students undertook a Microbit hide and seek activity and music, where students learnt that music + maths = rhythm!
An excellent day was had by all and it was wonderful to see students partaking in activities different to those they would do on a normal day. The whole Year group were a pleasure throughout and we look forward to our next Drop Down Day together!
FORENSICS CHALLENGE DAY
F riday 18th October Drop Down Day saw the Science
Department hold its CSI Forensics Day. Pupils and staff alike had great fun analysing blood spatters, stomach contents,
footprints, chromatography and flame tests following a ‘crime’ that occurred in one of the school’s laboratories.
The serious aspects of the day were the science experiments incorporated into the activities – most of which are part of the KS4 National Curriculum.
