YEAR 7 GIRLS’ TENNIS Rugby

Enrichment E

ngland’s fantastic run to the Rugby World Cup Final this term has certainly inspired our lower school students. Rugby enrichment has been taking place since September

at Charlton Park Rugby Club. Club coach Larry Measures has been running the sessions with the assistance of Mr Guildford. The Year 7 boys have made remarkable promise and are now at the point where the have mastered the basics, meaning they can begin to focus on playing matches against other schools. The sessions have been designed to really stretch the students, to make them work as hard as possible and of course to have fun! A huge well done to all the boys so far and good luck for their upcoming fixtures in the next term.

Secondly, a reminder that rugby training also takes place on a Wednesday after school from 4:30pm -5:30pm at Charlton Park Rugby Club. If you are interested please contact Mr Guildford.

T

he Year 7 girls thoroughly enjoy their time spent down at Shooters Hill Lawn Tennis Club. As we arrive each week, the Year 7 girls are greeted

by an enthusiastic and experienced tennis coach who quickly sets them off with some fun warm up drills.

The drills normally have the students laughing whilst catching their breath and once the warm up is completed, it is shortly followed by technical work on their movement. The girls are instructed to perform steps that you would normally see tennis players carry out as they play an intense game of forehand and backhand shots. Side steps, running forward towards the net, ready position, bent knees and side on, are some of the many movements students practise to ensure they perform at a very good level.

Customarily, the students end the two hours by playing a conditioning game of tennis, either around the clock, tennis rallies or target practice designed to improve their accuracy and tennis racket control.

Each week the Year 7 girls learn something new and are always conversing on the techniques or games they have learned on their way back to school. We all look forward to enrichment on a Wednesday!
