SCHOOL PRODUCTION High School Musical F

rom September, students from Year 7-9 have been working towards this year’s school musical - High

School Musical. Inspired greatly by the teen movie starring Zac Efron, students successfully auditioned for lead roles; Kiera W (Year 7) being cast as Gabriella Montez and Irvin K (Year 8) as Troy Bolton.

Along with the rest of the cast the auditions were an absolute hit, with students auditioning independently in front of 70 peers and three teachers. From experience, I can tell you this is nerve-wracking, yet the scholars

showed complete courage and bravery in all three areas; singing solo, dancing in groups of four and sight- reading scenes in pairs with only five minutes to prepare! Ambition is clearly shining through in the performing arts department this year and it has been amazing to see.

Students have finished learning one of the biggest dance numbers in the show this term, ‘Get Your Head In The Game’, tackling the use of basket balls and pom poms. Their efforts to rehearse independently during lunch and afterschool has shown extreme

dedication to the show at such an early part of the preparation.

Students have also excelled this year, actively creating choreography and setting scenes independently - a director’s dream to work with. With the rehearsal time being extended until the summer term, we have plenty of time to perfect the quality of their performance during the Wednesday enrichment sessions. It really is a talented cast and I am sure there will be a sneak preview somewhere in the near future to show just what they are capable of!
