South Yorkshire. I would like to tell you about my very special grey mare.

Around 18 months ago, I was asked to ride a 13 year old grey mare called Lara (Miss Silver Dollar) by her elderly owner/ breeder as she hadn’t had a rider for a few years. Within a few months, we started to jump British Showjumping (BS) together and very quickly started having numerous wins and qualifications.
In April 2019 we won both the discovery and restricted 1m finals at The Blue Chip Winter
y name is Devon Grimes, I am 23 years old and I am based in Doncaster,
Showjumping Championships. Unfortunately, just five weeks later, her owner Peter passed away and I found out he had left Lara to me. She has since settled in very well after moving to my yard and is still loving show jumping. In the last six months we have won a BS Bronze League qualifier, qualified for the British Showjumping National Discovery Championships and also qualified for and were placed at Scope Festival and the National Amateur Finals in the 1.05m and 1.10m, as well as numerous local wins up to 1.15m.
We’ve just stepped up to competing 1.20m and are hoping to move up further, as well as qualifying again for the
Blue Chip Championships and the National Championships next year. More recently, I took Lara along to Willow Banks Equestrian Centre Christmas Show to try her in a Puissance class, where we finished in second place along with then winning their six-bar challenge.
Lara is just a super little mare that is only around 16hh, but she tries her heart out with everything she does. She also loves to hack out and looks after new/non riders, too. She was bred by the late Peter Wilson in 2005 and is by Rebelara (Irish Draught) out of an Irish Draught x Thoroughbred mare. Whenever we compete, I hope Peter is watching and is proud of everything that we are achieving together.
