Super cob By Beth Hayes-Bosson, Preston

T

his is my traditional ‘super cob’ Johnny Rocket. He may only be 13hh but

this doesn’t stop him from tackling jumps/ditches/hedges out hunting! We compete in showing, working hunter and show jumping and he regularly hunts with the Holcombe Hunt.

We qualified for STARS in 2019 with our local riding club Barton Equestrian gaining sixth out of a class with 55-plus entries. He likes going around with my two year old niece on board in her basket saddle and even carries the dog on his back (although this is not to be recommended). He is a true all rounder that can turn his hoof to anything.

My winter project By Karen Errington

n 2011 I bought a little cob as a winter project. My friends thought I’d gone mad as at that point I was more used to riding racehorses, but as soon as I met Nevis I knew he was something special. Within weeks of bringing him home, I found out I was pregnant. There aren’t many three year olds I would trust enough to ride while pregnant but, although cheeky, Nevis was never too naughty.

day events and show jumping. We practise horseback archery and often ride bareback or bridle-less – occasionally both! My son adores him and loves to sit on him bareback while I muck out the stable around them. He hasn’t quite grown in to him yet, but already they have been show jumping together and shared their first canter along the beach.
