Community Pharmacy of the Year

SUPPORTED BY BELCOO PHARMACY

Fermanagh Belcoo Pharmacy is a family-run pharmacy established in 2001 by pharmacist Joseph McAleer. The rural pharmacy is located in Belcoo, a small in County Fermanagh, ten miles from Enniskillen, on the Cavan/Leitrim border. Due to the very rural nature of the area, the local GP merged with four other practices and moved out of the village, leaving the closest surgery now eight miles away. As such, the pharmacy has now become an essential link in the local area and is always aiming to extend the reach of public health provision. When staff member, Bridgeen, had to take time out to care for her father, who had dementia the community rallied around, raising money to raise funds for Alzheimer’s Society. The pharmacy followed suit….with great results…..

KENNEDY'S PHARMACY

Dunloy In the past year, Kennedy’s Pharmacy has been celebrating ten years in business and the team is very proud of what the staff has achieved. In May, the team held a week of celebrations with staff and patients alike where it held special offers to show appreciation to its customers for their dedicated and local support. This was accompanied by health days, which included free blood pressure checks, demonstrations from Revive and daily prizes, including a Saline Plus Breathe Easy Salt therapy device. The pharmacy has also been highly commended and for its efforts during the Community Pharmacy Living Well Campaign for ‘Care in the Sun’ and has been awarded runner-up in the NCP Family business awards for Business with Community Involvement.

MCKEEVERS CHEMIST

Fivemiletown Located in a small, rural town, McKeevers Chemist in Fivemiletown has its heart centred on the community’s health and well-being, with the diversity of the community reflected in the diversity of projects the team has delivered. Every member of the team lives locally and each has an average of 20 years’ service to the pharmacy, helping the business grow alongside the community and helping it to develop to meet its changing needs. When the team realised that it needed to change its offering, its in-store health promotion took a new, creative health direction that specifically promoted wellbeing of the local community. Events such as walking exercise, social outreach and health promotion are advertised and the community has positively reacted to this.
