Wins for the Warriors

WEAVERING Warriors RFC put out two teams on the same day for the first time – and got off to a winning start. The 1st XV beat Bexley 27-0

while the 2nd XV scraped a 31-29 win against St Leonards Cinque Ports RFC on November 9. Club spokesman Danny Bastone

said: “We are regularly seeing 30 plus players at training and the newly formed second XV just sta- bilises the club even further within the community and surrounding area. It’s a great time to be a War- rior.” For details go to www.face- book.com/weaveringwarriors/.

Kent head takes over RBL group

THE county chairman has taken responsibility for the area’s branch of the Royal British Le- gion, following the resignation of its chief officers. Derek Davison (pictured), chairman of the amalgamated branch of Bearsted, Leeds, Hollingbourne, Broomfield, and Thurnham, had made repeated appeals for members to step up and take a leading role, warning that the branch could fold. But the RBL’s county chairman Richard Cast says while he un- derstands the long-standing issue of getting replacement officers, no branch officer has authority to re- quest or order the closure of a branch. Mr Cast said: “I am aware of the situation at this branch and, in fact, last year, I appointed the chairman of our online branch ‘Invicta’ to assist as secretary for a year. Unfortunately, despite ideas on recruiting and extending the branch into Leeds and Bearsted as part of its district, no action was taken by the chairman and the members.” While Mr Cast said he was

waiting for a formal report of the group’s AGM in Hollingbourne, on November 5, he added: “I am privately aware that the branch officers stood down, including the chairman, although the re- mainder of the committee are still prepared to stand.”

Will, Estate or Power of Attorney

He said the RBL aimed to keep

all branches open and, was hope- ful the branch would be able to recruit more members and offi- cers from the district. It was pos- sible another meeting place in a more central location might also be considered. Mr Cast added: “I will, with my county committee, take control of the branch and seek firstly to hold a special meeting which will be notified to all members to attend. “If no officers come forward,

we have procedures that have to be followed to resuscitate the branch, which has 39 members.” Downs Mail was unsuccessful

in getting a comment from Mr Davison, who has been a key member for many years. He helped the branch win the Le- gion’s Moore Trophy for work in- cluding the P100 project in Hollingbourne and raising about £250,000 for the legion in the past 10 years.
