SERVICE ABOVE SELF
Then the Rotary Club of Buckhaven and Methil gave the next presentation. They have produced and are sel l ing Purple4Polio Mints and Fridge Magnets and have raised the amazing sum of £1,186.67 selling these. They surprised and amused the audience as they rounded off their presentation when they asked everyone to ‘Get your Pants on for Polio’ and displayed their own which, like Superman, they wore over their trousers.
NOVEMBER 2019: ISSUE 127
This was followed by a moving and inspiring talk from Colin Powell, a member of Radlett Rotary Club, who fell ill with Polio, after a swimming trip with his father when just 6 months old. Now at 70 years of age, he not only promotes the global eradication of polio but supports those like himself suffering the horrendous ef fects of Post Pol io Syndrome. He received a well deserved standing ovation.
Members cannot fail to have noticed that we are already into November, the Winter Lights have been switched on in town and Christmas items are already obvious in local shops. This means we in Rotary have also been thinking about our forthcoming activities. Plans are well in hand for the Kids Festive Day Out at the Byre Theatre to see Mother Goose and dates have been organised for our Carol Singing in Care Homes and around the pubs. We all now need to get our vocal chords in trim and note the dates in our diary. They are: Monday 9th December - 2.00 to 3.00pm at St Andrews Care Home
9
Tuesday 17th December - 2.00 to 3.00pm at Gibson House Thursday 19th December - 2.30 to 3.30pm at Balnacarron Friday 20th December - 6.00 to 8.00pm for a Bucket Collection around the pubs starting and finishing at the Whey Pat. The folk we sing to to rea lly do appreciate it, so if you can attend one or more you
are sure to make s o m e b o d y ’ s Christmas a little more special.
The Club’s Festive Dinner at Forgan’s and
Christmas Games Night are also
in hand so we are certainly in for a busy time in December.
