here’s a lot to be thankful for this month as foodie April Tompson brings joy to the season’s table with her take on “Zenful Eating: Mindful Meals in
Quiet Gratitude.” Tree of the nation’s top Zen chefs share their wisdom about being grateful, present and peaceful at mealtime—just in time for Tanksgiving!
We can instill thankfulness in our kids; it’s one of the
most teachable, grow-able strengths. “Kids with Gratitude: Making Tankfulness Second Nature” is based on emerging research that shows gratitude to be one of the easiest, most effective ways to kick-start happiness and well-being at any age.
If you’re like me and are one of the 50 to 70 million Americans that suffer from
insomnia, you will find some helpful ideas in “Chasing ZZZZZs: How to Put Insomnia to Rest.” It examines the many contributors to insomnia and adverse health effects of compromised sleep, along with natural pathways to a good night’s rest. One of those ways is through cognitive behavioral therapy, which has been shown to improve sleep and daytime functioning in 70 to 80 percent of people. Another consideration, optimizing thyroid function, is covered in-depth in our Healing Ways department, “Te Happy Tyroid: Seven Ways to Keep It Humming.”
As a lover of antiques and a consummate dumpster diver, I’m happy to see that
millennials, sometimes called the IKEA generation, are becoming more interested in their grandmothers’ hand-me-down furnishings, as we share in “Antiques Rising: Discovering the Green in ‘Brown’ Furniture.” Disposable furniture is out of line with their environmental sensibilities, and they’re taking notice of the uniqueness of antiques—each has a story and can be upcycled, repurposed and reused..
I’ve used personal trainers in the past, sometimes at the gym and other times in
the privacy of my own home. We share the newest trend in fitness in “Click and Sweat: Virtual Workouts Change the Game,” where training is via an app or online. Whether you’re a newbie or seasoned gym rat, online training appeals to factors of convenience, variety and privacy, something I may even consider for myself in the near future.
Have a wonderful Tanksgiving! In gratitude,
letter from publisher
