Bespoke Sculptures for new Christmas Trail

D

evon-based artist Woody Fox is creating a series of bespoke installations for the new light

trail Christmas at Stourhead. From 29 November – 30 December, visitors can discover a magical mile-long trail within the National Trust Gardens of Stourhead, Wiltshire.

Fox is creating a total of 12 sculptures, based on the popular Christmas carol, Twelve Days of Christmas, in his favourite medium of willow. Made using steel rods and resin for detail each piece will be oversized at 7ft tall.

The towering installations will feature a number and a character from a Partridge in a Pear Tree to 12 Lords a Leaping. Located approximately half way along the trail the 12 sculptures will sit within a landscape which includes a Tunnel of Light, immersing visitors in over 100,000 pea lights, a Fire Garden also themed with the 12 Days of Christmas and an incredible Laser Garden where dancing lights bounce across branches.

Alongside beautiful illuminations will be soundscapes from Singing Trees to a Carol of the Bells creating a multi-sensory experience for visitors like never before.

Woody Fox said: “The challenge of this process has been trying to make each one different from the rest, using different coloured willows to try to get the best effect out of them all.”

Once created the sculptures will be brought to life in a collaboration

with Culture Creative’s team of light artists.

“The pieces have been created to look spectacular in the illuminated evening show but also that they stand out proud for the daytime visitors too.” He said.

Christmas at Stourhead is brought to you by leading events promoter Raymond Gubbay Limited, a division of Sony Music, in partnership with the National Trust (Registered Charity 205846).
