One question they always get asked is what about the kids education? So both Claire and Shawn set about contacting other sailing families and questioning them about how they go about the children’s education and the different methods that people use. The resounding message that kept coming up was how much the sailing children were learning about the world they are living in. Dylan and Nathan will also still be following the UK curriculum. Dylan is signed up to Oxford Home School and Nathan will be following the Key Stage 2 curriculum for Maths and Literacy.
Planning a sailing route around the world takes time and research. Obviously with everything sailing, these plans need to stay fluid as it all depends on the weather. Their route will follow the trade winds
crossed the Atlantic ocean – the first of many for the Taylors. From St Lucia they will cruise the Caribbean islands of Martinique, Dominica, Guadeloupe, Antigua, St Kitts, British Virgin Islands, Puerto
Rico, Dominican Republic,
Jamaica and the San Blas Islands before crossing the Panama Canal in April. Once through the Panama Canal they will sail to The Galapagos Islands to explore the wildlife there before heading off on their 3000 nautical mile sail to the Marquises Islands in the Pacific. Spending 6 months exploring the delights of the Pacific including Tuamotus, Tahiti, Bora Bora, Cook Islands and Tonga they will then head down to New Zealand where they intend to stay for a few months, doing boat chores and travelling to Australia whilst the hurricane season passes through the
Pacific. From New Zealand they will head back up to Fiji to visit the many islands there and then on to the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. After a couple months diving the reef they will head around Papa New Guinea into Indonesia visiting remote unspoilt islands before preparing to cross the Indian ocean to Mauritius. From Mauritius it’s on to Reunion and the South Africa to experience a safari and visit South African family. They intend to stay a couple months in South Africa before heading back up the Atlantic Ocean via St Helena island home.
They are all very excited that their dream has finally come true!

which generally means they will follow the good weather patterns and winds around as they go.
The family have joined the well known ARC (Atlantic Rally for Cruisers) rally which leaves The Canary Islands in November. The ARC consists of around 200 yachts all leaving and crossing the Atlantic Ocean together. There are around 30 family boats included, which makes it a fun and social event. It also provides a platform to meet like-minded families to cruise the rest of the world with and to provide friendships and social opportunities for both kids and adults.
‘Mokara’ will depart Las Palmas on 24 November 2019 and they are estimated to arrive in St Lucia 20 days later having
