beauty

After a sweltering summer in Paris, where most of us have kept make-up to a bare minimum, it’s time to break out the colour once again and embrace autumn’s best beauty trends. Much of what we'll be seeing is in surprising, yet beautiful, shade palettes.

There was a very done, grown-up feel at the A/W 2019 fashion shows with some seriously sophisticated tailoring going on. Another trend that cropped up repeatedly on the runways was a strong romantic feel with a bit of an edge. Last but not least, we saw a definite nod to the late '70s disco era. The younger designers focused on individual expression, celebrating inclusivity and body positivity.

Experiment with some of the best beauty trends to compliment the autumn/winter fashion below with some incredible products to achieve the looks.

LIGHTLY HIGHLIGHTED SKIN Keep foundation to a bare minimum and highlight skin using Charlotte Tilbury’s Wonderglow. This is a gorgeous liquid product for brightening and highlighting. It can be mixed in with foundation for a boost of radiance to your base, or just add a touch to brow bones, cheekbones and cupids bow for a gorgeous glowing finish. This is definitely a favourite product I’ve been using lately on all of my clients.

LUSH LASHES SOFT SMOKEY EYES

Update your smokey eye with a romantic blend of soft greys and pinks rather than harsher dark shades. Tom Ford Eye Color Quad in Nude Dip is the perfect palette to achieve this look. Feminine shades of lavender and purple were also seen at Michael

Kors' disco-inspired collection,

which makes this palette doubly on-trend, so don’t be afraid to bust out the pastel shades.

BLUSH IS BACK

Liven up the complexion and soften the face with Jillian Dempsey Cheek Tints. I’ve long been a big fan of Jillian Dempsey Lid Tints for their foolproof application, and I was so happy to see these cheek tints added to her collection. These vegan cream blushes glide across cheeks and blend easily using your fingertips for a flush of wearable colour. It's nearly impossible to pick a favourite shade as they're all so versatile, but I always find myself reaching for Sunny, Scarlet and Poppy.

At the Brandon Maxwell show inspiration was taken from the late '70s disco era, with lashings of mascara, falsies and a few lower lashes flicked on with eyeliner. If you’re hoping to achieve this look there’s absolutely no doubt that Tom Ford has the best black eye defining pen on the market. It comes in the blackest of blacks and delivers ultimate precision, making fluid strokes easy due to the fine calligraphy tip on one end and a wider brush tip on the other. Between the two, you have everything you need to create a whole host of looks.

RED VELVET LIPS

Red lips in crimson and scarlet dominated the runways. Perfectly painted or perfectly smudged - either way, the finish was definitely matte or occasionally satin, rather than anything overly glossy. With the calibre of matte lipsticks available today, even from high street brands, this is an easy way to keep up with the looks of the season. My favourite lipsticks on a modest budget come from KIKO Milano for their quality of pigment.

HAIR

Hair gel is back in a big way, making its presence known with wet look curls at Fendi, glassy waves at Richard Quinn and slicked- down designs at Burberry. Picture-perfect styles also played their part to accompany the fashion - immaculate braids with long ribbons made a statement at Prada, while ballerina buns swanned down the Branden Maxwell catwalk. Whatever hairstyle you choose, be sure to brush your brows sideways for a more groomed aesthetic - brushed up brows are on their way out and clash with the structured styling for A/W19.
