Bits & Spurs Cont from page 32 The 35th annual Ogden 8 & Under World Champion
Barrel Race, held August 9-11, in Sweetwater, paid out $23,587.90. Friday’s winners were Kyleigh Davis (8&U/ Bertie/16.436) and Patty Clark (Open-1D/Dashin Bob/ 15.844). Saturday’s fastest were Sydni Rae Jones (8&U/ Fireintheholla/15.993) and Patty Clark (Open-1D/Dashin Bob/15.765), and Sunday’s were Cylee Jo Roberts (8&U/No Socks Frost/15.927) and Leslie Harrison (Open-1D/Rocka Fame/15.801). Sydni Rae Jones and Fireinthejolla won the Ogden 8&Under Finals with 15.876!.
CAQHA’s All-Breed August Beat-the-Heat Show,
held August 10-11 in Belton, drew a record-breaking 550 en- tries! Small-fry HPS were Elizabeth Eckman (Western/Zip- pen On An Impulse) and Rylee Merritt (English & Circuit Champ/Cricket By Corybol). 18&Under Walk-Trot HPs went to Sabine Lazo (Western/Double Down Zippo) and Sienna Lamanna (English & Circuit Champ/Spotted MNMs). 19&Over Walk-Trot champs were Kathy Hinze (Western/Loaded Machine), Jill Cossu (English/Strait Cash), and Carol Smith (Circuit-Champ/Purely Sensational). Alyssa Stoerner and Chipped & Rustee took Beginner Rider HPs for Western, English, and Circuit Champion. Alexis Lyndner and Late Night Hotrodder took all 3-high-points for the 18&Under division, and Marissa Hurst Schurig and Original Loper did the same for the 19&Over division.
National Snaffle Bit Association hosted its awards ban-
quet August 11 at its World Show in Tulsa. Steve Heckaman, Aubrey, received the NSBA Jack Benson Award for promot- ing the pleasure horse industry and its mission. Jason Martin, Pilot Point, and Vicky Holt Parker, Argyle, were recognized as NSBA’s 2 newest Quarter-Million Dollar Riders. Couture Blue Genes owned by Debbie Hodde and shown by Beth Case and Hodde, was named 2018 NSBA Horse of the Year.

just 3 short years. Mr. Johnnie Bellah McCloud, McCloud, OK, was member number 2,000!
The National Cowboy and Western Heritage Mu-
seum, in Oklahoma City will open a new exhibit September 15 and running through January 5. Entitled “Caballeros y Va- queros”, will cover the iconic western cowboy develop through art, from northern and western Africa up though Spain and over to the New World, with narration available in Eng- lish and Spanish. fmi,

NCHA/USTPA team penning July 26, a fun event held at the Metallic Cat NCHA Summer Spectacular in Fort Worth July 26. Rice was the NCHA member on the team with Baker and Brookshire, USTPA members.
Dr. Mike Martin, College Station, served as the Texas
State 4-H Horse Show veterinarian for well over 30 years, but this year was his last in that capacity. When that show ended, he headed to Colorado to watch grandchildren show horses.
Minna Harman, Austin, received her Rider Performance
Award for achievement at the 2nd Level from the US Dres- sage Assoc in July 30’s mail. She’s achieved a great deal with her horses, Yoda, a Connemara/Thoroughbred cross, and Mocca, an Appaloosa.

emony July 31, in conjunction with the KS University Bio- medical Science Masters Program in Kansas City, MO.
