de-wax. If you don’t give the moisture an exit path as it converts to steam you get a lesson on how popcorn works.”

Accreditations and Skilled Staff The company has become highly focused on high grade components and is the only small foundry in the State of Michigan with its own NADCAP accredited lab. Quality and Engineering Manager, Gregg Nash offers, “This is a unique operation that couples the quality system accreditations of the big guys in a small package. Our auditors continually rate us highest in overall knowledge and a focus on continuous improvement.” The staff members are mostly

investment casting career level individuals from the largest names in the business which allows Shellcast to approach programs at a higher level. The company was recently chosen by the US Army’s Redstone Arsenal to provide casting and finished assemblies for the PAC-3 Missile training systems. The project includes a new approach by partnering with one of the key customers for machining, painting and final

assembly operations. Seiler Instruments in St. Louis, MO buys castings for the M777 howitzer targeting system from Shellcast and calls the relationship “A winning combination”.

Company Philosophy Partnering is a core belief. Shellcast recently signed a technology partnership agreement with Keselowski Advanced Manufacturing (KAM) in Statesville, NC to assist on projects involving investment castings and/or 3D printed components. “We are at an exciting time in manufacturing and these new technologies are creating a huge industry buzz. We see Additive Manufacturing as complimentary technology and we embrace it. “We share the enthusiasm of KAM and we’re thrilled to be associated with them.” Bob Johnson concluded, “When I

joined Shellcast in 2005, I developed a long term plan that included a change in focus to leverage the strengths of the company. Today’s results say that we chose correctly.”
