Crashmotorist seen drinking


A DRIVER has been jailed after leaving another motorist wheel- chair-boundfollowing a collision. Paul Jones (34), of Alex Hughes


Close, Snodland, was seen swig- ging from a bottle of Baileys on September 9, 2018, following a three-vehicle smash at 12.45amon the A228 Snodland by-pass at the junction of Sortmill Road. Jones appeared before Maid-


stoneCrownCourt on Friday, June 28 charged with causing a serious injury by dangerous driving, fail- ing to stop at the scene of an acci- dent, and driving under the influence of drink and drugs. Jones was driving his Audi S4


with a passenger in the vehicle when the incident happened. He joined the A228 heading


south, ahead of a Peugeot 307. He crossed into the opposite carriage- way and hit a tanker. The tanker driver lost control and hit the Peu- geot head on.


Jones left the scene and returned


a short while later, drinking from a bottle ofBaileys.He faileda road- side breath test and drugs test be- fore being arrested and taken to hospital. A blood test showed ex- cess alcohol, aswell as ametabolite of cocaine, ecstasy and cannabis. The driver of the Peugeot suf-


fered life-threatening injuries and requires 24-hour care. Jones was sentenced to three


years in prison and banned from driving for four and a half years.


A PAEDOPHILE from Larkfield has been jailed after police found a lap- top containing over 1,000 indecent images of children stashed behind a toilet cistern. RussellHogg (58), of no fixed ad-


dress, hid the computer behind a wooden panel so he could search for illegalmaterial on the internet. On March 2, officers went to an


address in Larkfield where Hogg had been staying, after a report the device had been discovered by peo- ple trying to fix a toilet.Checks con- firmed it belonged toHogg. Hoggwasarrestedandwas found
