I THINK YOU DO HAVE TO FOCUS ON THE TASK AT HAND AND THE ROLE YOU’VE GOT TO PLAY. FOR ME, I THINK IT’S MORE ABOUT

CHANNELLING THE ANTICIPATION AND EXCITEMENT AND THERE IS NOTHING LIKE BEING INVOLVED IN A BREAKING NEWS STORY

So how did that come about? Well they just asked me to do the first year. I was thrilled to be asked and I went along and absolutely loved it, I felt so privileged to be there just watching the concert, let alone be involved in telling everybody about it and then getting to interview André as he stepped off stage at the end! That was how many years ago now? And they’ve asked me back every year since. I did the New Year concert that went out in cinemas as well – that was the one from Sydney. Year after year the shows that André does that go out in cinemas break box office records! It’s a phenomenal thing and I love the fact that people can’t get to see the shows in Maastricht or wherever it is, but you can get the best seats in the house in your local cinema! I’ve been to his shows – I’m a fan… Awww fabulous! But the cinema is still quite an experience isn’t it? It is, because we try to bring a real flavour of the atmosphere and what it’s like. Everybody watching it live will be singing, chatting and swaying and dancing along to the music and you still get that in the cinemas up and down the country, they can see the orchestra in detail on the big screen and hear every note; they get to feel that buzz, atmosphere and hear André’s amazing music! It’s the next best thing to being there live! We’ve had a proposal in one cinema! It’s a really special event to go to! He’s not in the UK this year, so it’s your only chance to see him without travel this year!

You host your own classical music show on the radio, but when did your love of classical music begin? For me it was when I was quite young actually, as my dad was always playing classical music. He was a huge fan, so it really was the soundtrack to my childhood – he had it blaring out at every available opportunity. Mostly, it was the loudest when he was doing the washing up, my mum would tick him off and tell him to turn it down [laughing]. So from an early age it was something I was surrounded by and I love the fact that now I have my own show on Classical FM where I get to play some fantastic pieces of music, brilliant composers and officially the one thing I’m passionate about is my young classical star that play every week, so making sure I’m that celebrating and shining a spotlight on the next generation of musicians coming up!

And you’re working with André Rieu… Yes, I’m really lucky to work with André and I go out every summer to Maastricht to host the concert that goes out in cinemas; it’s a fantastic opportunity to see a concert like that live…

I have to talk fashion. You look gorgeous every morning and you host the fashion segment for the races; how important is fashion to you and how would you describe your sense of style? Ahh you’re too kind! Umm it’s really interesting because as a child I was a bit of a tomboy… No way! Yes, I was [laughing]! I recoil in horror as I see photos of me wearing my two brothers’ hand-me-down jumpers – what was I thinking? I just love doing the job I do and I look at my four-year-old daughter and I see the same traits in her, you know, wanting to dress up, she’ll be walking around in my high heels and waving something colourful around. I’m lucky I get to do a job where I can wear all these amazing outfits. So, when I do ITV Racing for example, I’m just planning at the moment my outfits for Epsom and I’ve got Ascot week coming up, so planning for that! I get to wear a hat as well and you don’t get to do that much anymore, not even at weddings. So, it’s amazing to be involved in that. I’m not saying I’m some amazing fashion expert, but what I like to do is look at styles and colours and try to work out the things that I like and the things I think work for me and I think you just have to do that and try to develop your own personal sense of style and not be worried too much about what other people are wearing because it won’t always look great on you! I have to say, things like
