Welcome

Do you enjoy watching antique programmes? Particularly the ones where someone discovers an old piece of jewellery, takes it to an expert and they discover that it is in fact a very valuable item that subsequently goes on to be sold for a lot of money. In this issue Wessex Auction Rooms describe some of the recent pieces that they have discovered in boxes of costume jewellery including a rare George Hunts Arts and Crafts Brooch that went on to sell for £2,100. Turn to page 16 to read more and find out about a new valuation morning that they are launching in Sutton Benger.

Our walk this month takes us on a lovely circular route around Bishopstone and Idstone with some glorious views, it takes in part of the Ridgeway. Combining farmland, quiet village lanes and downland, there is one long climb at the beginning and end but the rest of the walk is fairly level. There was a lot of sheep in the fields so please keep dogs on leads.

On the subject of dogs, if your canine friend likes swimming in slightly suspect water do read more about the effects of blue- green alagae, on page 38, and what you need to do if your dog becomes ill after swimming.

Chippenham Amateur Radio is a popular club with over 70 members. It has one of the largest memberships of any radio club, showing what a popular hobby this is in the area. If you would like to get involved with amateur radio, during July the club is running a foundation level two day course - turn to page 23 to find out how to contact the club.
