5. On reaching the road, turn right along Nell Hill, signposted towards Russley Downs. After the last house on your right, turn right again to take a wide gravel footpath that soon becomes a narrow dirt track.


6. Follow the path to a gate that takes you into a field, continuing in the same direction keeping a bank to your left.

7. You’ll reach another gate that takes you into a further field, where you bear left to follow the floor of the valley. Continue to the gate at the far end of the field to take you into another field.

8. In this field, bear to the right as it starts to climb more steeply up the valley, staying on the path as it begins to narrow. Keep going in the same direction until you reach a gate that takes you out onto the Ridgeway.

9. Turn left onto the Ridgeway and follow the path, going straight across the first crossroads of tracks. After a while, the path starts to climb. Keep going to the top of the slope and turn left towards Idstone at the next crossroads, which is by some farm buildings on your left.
