A circular walk around Bishopstone, via Idstone Enjoy some lovely views over the Thames Valley and a gentle stroll up
The Ridgeway, thought to be Britain’s oldest path, with this circular walk from the picturesque village of Bishopstone, near Swindon.

1. Find somewhere to park near the pond on the main road, where it is legal to do so. We then started the walk from St Mary’s Church car park.
2. Turn left onto Church Walk, following the road to the left up a slope to a T junction where you turn left.
3. Just before you reach the pond on your right, turn right along a tarmac
Useful information Distance: 4.5 miles (7 ¼ km). Time: Allow two hours Terrain: Mostly off-road
footpaths, with a few parts taking you along quiet village lanes. There is one long climb near the beginning.
Note: At the time of walking, there were lots of sheep in fields. Please keep dogs under close control at all times and on leads around livestock.

road. After about 100m, turn left onto a narrow footpath called The City. Follow this path, crossing a bridge over a stream, then passing a row of cottages on your right.
4. Continue along the path as it bears sharply left, ignoring a stepped path on your right. Instead, take the next path you get to on your right. Climb this path which takes you up to the road.
