MEDICINE HAT NEWS

Cottonwood Coulee

Let’s face it: Cottonwood Coulee is a fun golf course to play.

The executive-style layout measures a little over 4,500 yards, which means it’s perfect for people of any age or any skill level.

Nestled in one of Medicine Hat’s coulees and with the picturesque Seven Persons Cree running through it, Cottonwood Coulee offers panoramic views and challenging holes.

Cottonwood Coulee will continue to offer $25 greens fees every Monday throughout the season. Their Junior league is entering its fourth year and will run every Wednesday afternoon during July and August. Golfers aged seven and older will play up to nine holes each week and receive a golf shirt and prize at the year-end windup.

The league will give kids a chance to get out and play golf on the course. Also back for another season is Trevor Moore’s Advantage Golf Academy. For more information on the league or to register, golfers or their parents should contact the pro shop at 403.529.1010.

Mac Baker, Cottonwood Coulee’s manager, is looking

forward to a busy season, with several events for both members and non- members.

The annual Cottonwood

Classic will be held on July 5-7 with a couple of new format changes that Baker says players have been asking for.

Saturday August 24 will be the annual Ted Woolfrey Memorial Tournament, a fun team event to pay respects to the memory of one of the original founders of the golf course, Ted Woolfrey.

To wrap up the season, the always exciting South Country Co-op Turkey Two Ball event will be on Oct. 6.

Membership dues this year are $1,250. Weekday memberships are $990. Five-, 10- and 20-game passes are also available.

League nights are: every Monday (mixed league), Tuesday (women’s league), Wednesday morning (men’s skin game), Thursday morning (women’s league) and Thursday

night (men’s league). All leagues at Cottonwood are “fun leagues,” said Baker, gatherings that give people opportunities to meet and play with other golfers. Registration will be in mid-late April and all leagues will begin in early May. Signup is available throughout the season and more info is always available online at www.cottonwoodcoulee.golf

Besides the variety of golf options available, Cottonwood Coulee also offers a fully licensed clubhouse, with friendly staff, a brand new menu and exciting daily specials all created by our new in-house chef. We also have an RV park with 22 campsites, a practice facility, a patio and barbecue pit areas. The club can cater any event required, and all of our tournaments are now catered by Skinny’s Smokehouse.
