Wildstone Golf Course

WILDSTONE COURSE A GEM IN THE KOOTENAY AREA Medicine Hat News

Among the golf course gems of the Cranbrook- Kootenay area is the Wildstone Golf Course, ranked among the top 100 courses in Canada.

The entire area is a destination for avid golfers, who love the variety and the number of courses available, not to mention stay-and-play offers that combine great golf courses with superb accommodation and friendly service.

“It really is a golf destination,” said Chris Andrews, general manager of the nine-year-old Wildstone course, a Black Knight Design by Gary Player. “Visitors like the different courses all within a short distance of each other, and we have some wonderful accommodations, too.”

The 18-hole par-72 Wildstone course that can stretch out to 7,127 yards offers five different tees

to accommodate golfers of different skill levels. One thing that is the same for everyone, though, is the spectacular scenery.

“No. 9, a par-5, might be our most unique design,” said Andrews. “It’s got a mountain backdrop and a cluster of trees in the fairway, and it’s designed to give a couple of strategic options off the tee. People love our wide open fairways and the greens are really undulating, so it can be important to hit your approach shot to the right spot on the green. And the course is always well maintained.”

The 18th hole, too, is unforgettable, said Andrews. “It’s pretty spectacular when you see the Rocky Mountains, and challenging, just the way Mr. Player would want a finishing hole to be.”

Andrews says a little more than half of Wildstone’s

customers are visitors, with the rest being local members.

The course has a great reputation, which brings hundreds of golfers annually from around the region. Yes, even from Medicine Hat and area. “We’re on track for our regular opening, around the middle of April,” said Andrews. “The conditions look fantastic. We’re usually the first golf course to open in the Kimberley-Cranbrook area.”

Head professional Dave Linardic has been in his position since the course opened in 2011 and is always ready to help golfers improve their game. Updates on everything connected to Wildstone Golf Course, including a $39 April green-fee rate if booked online, plus a number of stay-and-play offers, can be found on the course’s Facebook page and other social media outlets.
