Crowsnest Pass Golf Club NEW HOLES TO OPEN AT CROWSNEST PASS GOLF CLUB

Medicine Hat News

It’s a year of change around the Crowsnest Pass Golf Club, located amidst five communities near the Alberta- B.C. border.

The 18-hole course, about a 30-minute drive west of Pincher Creek, will have a new look by the middle of this summer when a number of new holes are opened for play.

Head professional Jason Roth said all of the new holes are beautiful and will be a treat for golfers of all calibres. As well, a new clubhouse is being built and will be ready in 2020, a state-of-the-art driving range has been developed, and a new maintenance shop is being built.

After all the changes are made, the course will still have 18 holes, and Roth says while all the new holes are beautiful, No. 13 might just stand out above the rest.

“No. 13 will be amazing,” said Roth. “It’s got an elevated tee box overlooking the mountains, a water

pond on the right side and then you hit your second shot from the valley up to the green.” It’s a 435-yard par-4 that plays not quite as long because of the elevated tee, but Roth said golfers will likely get a kick out of playing it above all others.

All the new greens were seeded last year, and the fairways are a mixture of seed and sod, he said. The course generally opens around the first of May and this year should be no different, said Roth, although club officials are hoping a late-April start might be forthcoming, depending on the weather.

Crowsnest Pass Golf Club — which caters to about 240 members from the neighbouring communities of Bellevue, Coleman, Frank, Hillcrest and Blairmore — also draws visitors from major Alberta communities

such as

Lethbridge, Calgary and yes, even Medicine Hat. “It’s only about a three-hour drive from Medicine Hat,” said Roth. But it’s definitely worth the drive, he said.

The official opening for the new holes will take place with a tournament on June 28. Other events of note at the Crowsnest Pass course are the Rick Rypien memorial tournament on June 8, and a Health Foundation fund-raising event on June 21.
