Adams
Mountain Home is a first-class city with a mayor/council form of govern- ment. It is divided into four wards with two council members representing each ward. A ward’s size is based on popula- tion. While council members represent the wards, they are elected at-large by all voters in the city. They serve two- year terms. Elected officials with four-year terms
are the mayor, city clerk, city attorney and district judge. The police chief, fire chief and treasurer are appointed posi- tions. City offices are located in the Municipal Building, 720 S. Hickory St., unless otherwise noted. Mountain Home has a 1.375 percent city sales tax. Half the city’s 1 percent sales tax goes to the Street Department, $350,000 goes to the Water and Sewer Department, and the remainder goes to the General Fund. The city’s 0.375 per- cent public safety sales tax goes to po- lice and fire departments. The total sales tax in Mountain Home is 9.125 percent — 6.5 percent state, 1.25 percent county and 1.375 percent city.

Mayor Hillrey Adams’ duties include ensuring the city ordinances and regula- tions are enforced through the police department and supervising 174 em- ployees. 425-5116
City Clerk City Clerk Brian A. Plumlee is the le-
gal custodian of the city’s records and documents, and also serves as the city council’s secretary. He conducts grant research and updates, and maintains the city’s website. 425-5943

City Treasurer Treasurer Rita Murray is responsible
for being the custodian of the city’s bud- get and tax funds. She processes city payroll, accounts payable and the em- ployees’ retirement system, and pre- pares financial statements. The treasur- er also provides financial planning for the city.

The Mountain Home Police Depart- ment is located at 424 W. Seventh St. It has 17 patrol officers, four criminal in- vestigators,three school resource offi- cers, eight reserve/part-time officers, five dispatchers, one full-time code en- forcement officer, and three full-time and one part-time administrative per- sonnel.
The department, under the guidance
of Police Chief Carry Manuel, operates under a community-oriented policing philosophy placing emphasis on the prevention of crime. Grant funds are pursued to bridge the gap between lim- ited resources and worthy programs. 425-6336 Website:

Fire Department The Mountain Home Fire Depart-
ment provides fire and rescue services to almost 19,000 people living in the 54 square miles of Mountain Home’s city limits and the Mountain Home Ru- ral Fire Protection District. A combination department of full- time and volunteer firefighters includes Fire Chief Ken Williams, Fire Marshal Gary Pyszka, an administrative assis- tant, 25 full-time firefighters and 10 paid-per-call volunteers.
