EVERYBODY’S MAMA
MACON, GEORGIA’S LIVING LEGEND, MAMA LOUISE Mama Louise Hudson is like “The Rock
of Ages “in Macon, Georgia, still the God- mother of Southern Rock and Soul Food. After years of arriving at H&H Soul Food to prepare biscuits and bacon at 5:00 a.m., Mama retired from the kitchen in 2014 and moved to the dining room where she sits in a plush custom chair ( "The Queen's Throne" ) and greets diners who come from all over the world to be in her presence and enjoy good cooking. While Mama approaches the age of 90
on July 8 this year, her stories remain pre- cious, as she speaks about a bunch of skinny white boys looking thru the window" of the restaurant back in 1969, slowly entering, to be treated like family in a town where "hippies" were yet to be accepted by many of the local estab- lishments. Shortly thereafter, Gregg Allman asked her if it were okay to call her "Mama" and the rest is history. On this 50th anniversary of the found-
ing of the Allman Brothers Band, we salurte a woman who was instrumental in their indi- vidual and collective lives. Long Live Mama Louise - Her loving presence remains a true blessing to the World.
