JSC Volga to convert reject line to thermo-mechanical pulp


Region, has ordered the rebuild by Andritz of an existing groundwood reject line into a TMP (thermo-mechanical pulping) line. Start-up is scheduled for the third quarter of 2019. The new 180 bdmt/d TMP line will process spruce as raw material to feed existing paper machines. To significantly increase

the capacity of newspaper production, Andritz will also rearrange the existing parallel layout of high-consistency (HC) refiners to a two-stage HC refining set-up and install a new chip washing and HC refiner feeding system with a new plug screw feeder and a DiscFilter.


The project comprises modernisation of the existing screening and low-consistency refining system and includes the complete automation and electrification equipment with DCS system. Engineering, training,


advisory services for mechanical installation work, commissioning, and start-up are also part of the scope.


As one of the largest newsprint


producers in Russia, JSC Volga uses 100 per cent TMP as furnish.


Fifth Valmet tissue line ordered by Papel San Francisco in Mexico


Papel San Francisco in Mexico has ordered a fifth tissue production line from Valmet. The Advantage DCT 100TS line will be installed at the Mexicali mill and is expected to start up in the third quarter of 2021. The new tissue line will meet


Papel San Francisco’s need of additional capacity for standard tissue products. The previous four deliveries include three Advantage DCT machines started up in 2006, 2009 and 2018. Papel San Francisco was also the first to start up an Advantage NTT line in 2013, to meet demand for textured tissue. Dario Palma y Meza Espinoza,


operational director at Papel San Francisco, says: “The choice to select the Advantage DCT machine was quite easy. Equipped with the Advantage ViscoNip press, it is the most efficient and best choice for the grades we need to produce. It is also in our philosophy to go for low energy consumption and


lowest possible emissions to air and water. With this new tissue line, we expect to achieve the best tissue quality combined with lowest energy consumption.” The new tissue machine will


have a width of 2.8 metres and a design speed of 2,200 metres per minute giving an additional 30,000


tons tissue capacity per year to Papel San Francisco’s current production of toilet tissue, kitchen towels and napkins. Included in the order is an


Advantage DCT 100TS tissue machine equipped with OptiFlo headbox and cast steel Yankee cylinder. The machine will be supplied with Advantage tissue technology including ViscoNip press, AirCap hood and WetDust dust system. Papel San Francisco started up


its first tissue machine in 1980, since when it has grown steadily and is today operating six tissue machines with a yearly capacity of 180,000 tons.
