Bedgebury to host summer music festival, jobs to do in the garden this month, plus jamming with junk & Easter days out
Caroline Knight F
orest Live, formerly known as Forest Tour, is a remarkable annual music festival promoted by the Forestry Commission. Featuring predominantly pop and rock bands and artists, it is aimed at encouraging people to enjoy woodlands whilst also raising funds to help look after the forests in the future. This summer’s concert series takes place in seven beautiful locations, one of which is Bedgebury National Pinetum at Bedgebury, home to a world-renowned collection of conifers. It also provides a magical setting for walkers, cyclists and wildlife enthusiasts –
as well as live music lovers, and there is also a Go Ape tree top adventure course and an adventure play trail. Taking place at Bedgebury over the weekend of 14th-16th June, Forest Live will feature a number of popular artists including the award-winning rock band Foals, English singer-songwriter Paul Weller, who achieved fame in The Jam and The Style Council, and Hacienda Classical, a successful clubbing classical cross-over show. • Tickets are on sale now. Jamming with junk!
Take the kids to Leeds Castle to experience a jamming session using their own junk! From 19th-22nd April children can make and play instruments constructed from rubbish. They can also add their own touches to a sculpture created by award-winning eco-artist Sarah Turner – made from litter of course! The event is included in the price of admission. • Visit

FUN IN THE
4 things to do IN THE GARDEN this month
1. Don’t be fooled. It might feel warm but there’s every chance there could still be frost so don’t be tempted to plant out tender annuals until at least May.
2. Feed roses and hungry shrubs this month to boost the chance of enjoying better blooms and lush foliage.
3. If you have a Cotinus, often called a smoke bush, now’s a good time to give it a hearty prune. It will produce fresh, vigorous foliage as a result, and the smoky cloud of summer flowers won’t be affected.
4. You’ve probably already started mowing the lawn and now it’s a good idea to give it a feed. Also aerate the turf by using a garden fork or a hollow tine aerator. The more the merrier – air pockets help eliminate moss!
