Statement shades


At the other end of the colour scale are Otto Tile & Design’s hand- crafted encaustic tiles in sunny shades of yellow – perfect if you need something to wake you up in the mornings! Whether you go for thick, thin, horizontal or vertical stripes, these will make a bold statement in the bathroom. Smooth Stripes, pictured here [8], comprises five straight, narrow, mustard-yellow lines interspersed with white. Lay them in the same direction for continuous lines to give length or width to a space, or create a patchwork effect by turning alternate tiles at 90°.


An even bolder statement could be made not with colour but with the sheer beauty of a rustic pedestal basin made from petrified wood that’s been buried underground, causing the timber to turn into a stone- like material [10]. The pedestal is naturally textured on the outside and smooth on the inside. The whole fabulous pedestal range from Indigenous now comprises seven options, all handmade from natural materials, also including volcanic stone and Carrara marble.
