News from Swan Poets
SWAN POETS January 18th 2019. A memory of yesteryear. The evening began with a touching reminder of past times. As the gathering of 23 poets and listeners settled down, a tall dark messenger arrived with an unexpected gift from Bulgaria. This turned out to be a hefty volume, a glossy, well produced journal containing, among its many poems, ten pieces by Halesworth poets from our days in Pinky's Cafe. There were photographs too, of the old Pinky's back room, snapped on the occasion of a wonderful visit by Kristina Boshanova, the eminent poet and editor from the far side of Europe. Poetry has its many mysteries. To open such an anthology was

IN loving memory of a dear husband, father and grandfather who passed away on February 2nd 2009. Also a dear daughter and sister, Linda Mullock, who passed away on July 31st 2013, aged 59, after a long illness, bravely borne.
If tears could build a stairway, And memories and lane, I’d walk right up to heaven, And bring you back again.
Sadly missed by Audrey, Judith, Neil and families.
a thrilling reminder; peoples world-wide engaged in one and the same creative process, a special moment indeed. This winter's night brought
poets from Felixstowe and East Dereham, Norwich and Woodbridge. Poems made as the old year died, poems still with a Christmas feel, and others of the coming New Year, its hopes and ambitions. The landlord, Steve, brought in cakes and biscuits. There were new faces, new voices and a huge amount of laughter and sorrow intermingled. The proceedings ran later than usual.
Swan Poets plan to meet
again in March (Saturday 16th) starting at 7pm. We should be finalising arrangements for our entry in the Suffolk Poetry Society's Annual Festival in May. If you have a poem to read, contact Mike on 01986 872981. Entrance is £2 at the door. Under eighteens come free. Listeners and poetry lovers welcome as ever.

THANKS EVERYBODY
BRYAN Samain sends warmest thanks to all friends, neighbours and members of Halesworth Probus Club who kindly sent birthday greetings and good wishes on the recent occasion of his 94th Birthday.
Fisher Folk
FISHER Folk & Acoustic meets monthly, usually the last Wednesday, in the atmospheric Fisher Theatre Cellar and gives local musicians and singers the chance of a 20 minute performance slot in front of a receptive audience. The January session featured an eclectic mix, opening with traditional Irish and Scottish tunes from Daniel Moriarty of guitar and fiddle. Paul Gillings followed with virtuoso renditions of roots and blues on harmonica covering Rory Mcleod numbers and his own composition “Fatherhood”. DnA (Del & Ali) made their debut in the Cellar with fine covers of some contemporary songs on vocals and piano, including “Make me feel your love” and “Many rivers to cross”. Peter Hood, on guitar, writes his own East Coast songs, often on current issues such as “Pass me by” on homelessness and “They're gone” about missing persons. The band Sark closed the session with a line up of sax, guitar, rhythm box, keys and vocals covering some recent songs such as “Valerie” and “Blame it on me”. Entry to this is £5,. Tickets can be booked on line. Performers not charged and must be pre-booked; To book either

A BIG THANK YOU FROM SUE BACLE (HOLTON)
I WOULD like to say a big thank you to everyone who has kindly knitted or contributed in any way to help raise another £1,015 over the last year in memory of my husband Len. All the proceeds have
been donated again this year to Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge, to help fund research and clinical trials for the treatment into a very rare form of cancer,
Leiomyosarcoma which Len bravely fought. I would like to say a big
thank you to Elsa, Sue and staff, with special thanks to Rob and Alex who kindly allowed me to sell the knitwear in their tea rooms, Squires of Southwold. Your help and support
over the last year is really appreciated.
Holton Christmas Lights
RAY and Val with the help of our son Tony would like to wish everybody a Happy New Year, and to thanks all our wonderful neighbours and the people who came to see our Christmas Lights at 20 Orchard Valley, Holton. With their help we collected £192 for the East Anglian Air Ambulance, well done! We hope to do it again this coming year and hope you will support us again. Thank you.
