One of the biggest barriers to a person changing for the better is enabling on the part of others. It is easy enough to start becoming an enabler and is usually innocent enough as well. We think we are helping when we are actually hurting. We do for others with the greatest of intentions, but sometimes those actions make things worse in the long run. This is particularly true with any sort of addiction. The sooner we figure out we are hurting and not helping, the sooner we can stop enabling.
