Hound Labs Tell us about your

organization and your role. Hound Labs has developed the world’s first portable breathalyzer to measure THC and alcohol in breath. Te ultra-sensitive technology for non-invasive breath analysis that we used to create the Hound® marijuana breathalyzer took five years to develop. I am the CEO and co-founder of Hound Labs, and I am also an ER physician and reserve deputy sheriff. Seeing tragedies resulting from marijuana impairment made me realize the urgent need for a tool that can objectively determine recent use and inspired the idea for the Hound breathalyzer.

Why did your company decide to join DATIA?

We receive many inquiries from employers who are struggling because they do not have a way to objectively determine who has used marijuana in the past few hours and therefore may be impaired. Joining DATIA is a great way to connect with drug testing industry leaders, many of whom face questions every day about the future of testing for marijuana.

What has been your favorite

membership benefit since joining DATIA?

In addition to being part of a community that our technology will be able to help, we have enjoyed receiving the DATIA focus magazine. It’s full of interesting content that provides insights into the ways in which we can help employers ensure safe and fair workplaces.

What does your company hope to gain from its membership with DATIA?

We look forward to meeting more people in the drug testing industry, many of whom are grappling with the very issues we are hoping to solve. We will use insights from our conversations to help a wide-ranging group of employers and their employees.

What do you wish other people knew about your company that they may not know?

We’re very proud to have created a device that helps balance safety and fairness. With an increasing number of adults now having legal access to marijuana, employers need to find a way to keep their workplaces safe while ensuring that responsible, law-abiding employees aren’t unfairly disciplined. Te Hound breathalyzer provides the objective data to make this possible.

Do you or someone from your company plan to attend the DATIA annual conference in Chicago? If so, what are you most looking forward to?

Yes, Hound Labs plans to atend. I am looking forward to sharing updates about our marijuana breathalyzer and to speaking with many of the employers who have been struggling with these issues. ❚
