Braunton Museum & Information During the last twelve months there have been some noticeable improvements at the museum.

Significantly the new signage which tells everyone that we are the Braunton Museum, not The Bakehouse Centre as previously signed. This, together with the new clock, has certainly enhanced the building. We have a moving forward programme in place and hopefully, as we reach the year’s end, we shall be able to get plans for consideration regarding further development both inside and outside. Exciting, though demanding, times ahead.

2018 has seen us become the recipients of various funding from local businesses. Also we have been fortunate to be part of the Braunton Co Op Local Community Fund and recently received a cheque for £2373, plus the Tesco Bags for Good Causes scheme which gave us a further £1000. We hope you

continue to drop your tokens in our slot at the Tesco in Braunton when you shop, as we are currently one of the organizations chosen again. We were delighted to be nominated by the Braunton Caen Rotary Club to receive monies raised by the Braunton Village Fair and were presented with a cheque for £1500.

Furthermore, The Vivian Moon Braunton Trust Fund awarded us £2600 for refurbishment. Whilst all this sounds very healthy, some of this money is nominated to be spent in specific areas only and this has enabled us to purchase new software, computers and printers. Our thanks must also be rendered to Braunton Parish Council who support us with their grants and advice.

Volunteers are our life and blood. Without them the museum could not carry on. We exist solely on the gift of their time and help to ‘run the show’ on a day to day basis. If anyone is interested in joining our team, please call in sometime and have a chat. We also value the input of our trustees who are able to provide another dimension to our discussions. The chairman of the management committee has given many hours of his time pursuing the Moving Forward Programme and we would like to acknowledge this too. We have a wealth of local history here in Braunton and a wide choice of books to help you find out

information about your family roots, property or business. The research team are happy to look into things on your behalf.

The information area is well equipped with maps, brochures and leaflets for virtually everywhere in North Devon. We have visitors from all over the UK and worldwide and pride ourselves on being able to answer most of their queries!

If you run a tourism business, B&B, Guest House or Camp site we can advertise

your business on our website, in-house lists and even on our rolling screen in the window. However there is a small reasonable fee for this service.

We are very happy to display posters of local charitable events in our windows, this is a free facility, any business advertising will incur a nominal fee.

Finally, and most importantly, all of us at the museum would like to thank you ‘The Brauntonians’ who come and see us on a regular basis, for all your interest, your support at our events and, especially recently, for coming to our

display at the Parish Hall as part of the Remembrance weekend, it was a moving experience. Behind every poppy there is an untold story…

Thank you all and we wish you a New Year full of promise.

Remember, we are your

museum and we are here for you.
