GOOD for you,

GOOD for the planet

Need a new toothbrush? Concerned about the environment? Here’s how to make the GOOD choice

According to the NHS you should replace your toothbrush every three to four months. That’s a lot of toothbrushes during the average lifetime (estimates suggest the average person uses 300 toothbrushes during the course of their life, and that 3.6 billion plastic toothbrushes are used worldwide every year*). But what happens to your

toothbrush when its time is up? Many plastic toothbrushes end up in landfill or the sea, where they take up to a thousand years to decompose (not to mention the risk they pose to marine life and habitats). So if, like an increasing number of people, you’re worried about plastic pollution, you may be looking for an alternative. And now there is one – a bio-based

plastic toothbrush made from sugar cane and castor oil, the first of its kind in the UK and also the first product in the TePe GOOD® range.

What is it made from? The TePe GOOD® toothbrush is manufactured in Sweden using 100 per

cent green energy. Sugars from the sugar cane plant are converted to ethanol, which is then converted into polyethelene (green plastic). This is better for the environment than the plastics most other toothbrushes are made from because it’s renewable up to 96 per cent, meaning that sugar cane is regrown within a year and then used to produce new bio-plastic. Bio-based polyethelene also has a 95

per cent carbon dioxide neutral footprint. This means it’s made with an almost negligible impact on greenhouse gas emissions. Here’s what goes into the TePe

GOOD® toothbrush and its packaging:

• The handle is made from bio-based polyethelene

• The brush filaments are made from a bio-based polyamide made from 100 per cent renewable sources

• The packaging is recyclable, with the blister pack and backing card both widely recycled in the UK

Why is this important? Because ethical factors are increasingly becoming an issue with today’s shoppers. Indeed, concern over plastics has accelerated during the last year or so, with the government announcing its 25-year environmental plan last April. This includes a ban on single-use plastic straws and cotton buds. Many of the country’s major supermarket chains have also pledged to use packaging that can be reused, recycled or composted by 2025.

User-friendly product However the TePe GOOD® toothbrush isn’t just good for the environment. It was also designed in collaboration with dental experts. As a result it is efficient, durable and user friendly, with an ergonomic handle that helps you achieve maximum cleanliness – so your teeth and gums will love it too. Ask your local pharmacist about the

TePe GOOD® toothbrush today (suggested retail price £2.75) or find out more by visiting www.tepe.com.
